The first Hope College Orchestra concert of the 2003-04 season will take place on Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The program will be an all-orchestral concert, featuring compositions of Charles Ives, Bedrich Smetana, Richard Hayman, and Maurice Ravel.

The first work on the program will be the "Variations on 'America'," by Charles Ives. Ives lived on the East Coast and had a successful insurance business, but wrote music on the side and became one of America's most respected composers.

The second work on the program is the romantic composition, "The Moldau," by Bedrich Smetana. The concert continues with a humorous piece called "'Pop' Hoe-Down," written by American composer and arranger, Richard Hayman.

The program will close with Maurice Ravel's "Bolero."Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
