A visit from musicians from the Hunan province in China has been rescheduled to occur at Hope College on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. at Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Originally scheduled for January, the concert was rescheduled due to visa delays for the artists to travel from China.
The concert promises to be a varied affair featuring everything from traditional instruments to Peking Opera scenes, with both small and large groups of musicians for different pieces.
The musicians are faculty from the Music College of Hunan, located in the capital city of Hunan province, Changsha, in southeast China.
Among the instruments to be used are zithers, the erhu fiddle, suona oboe and pipa lute. The Chinese zither is the ancestor of the Japanese koto, and is a string instrument four to five feet long played on a flat surface.
The erhu fiddle is considered by many to be representative of Chinese traditional stringed instruments, and is popular instrument in China. The pipa lute is a four-stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
