The Hope College Visiting Writers Series will feature poet Marianne Boruch on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Boruch has published five acclaimed books of poetry and a collection of essays titled "Poetry's Old Air."

Her collections of poetry include her latest, "Poems New & Selected" (2004), "A Stick that Breaks and Breaks" (1997) and "Moss Burning" (1995). Her poems and essays have been published in such places as "The New Yorker," "The Nation," "Iowa Review" and "The Georgia Review," and have been anthologized in "The Best American Poetry, 1997," "Poets Reading: The Field Symposia," and elsewhere.

Her awards include two Pushcart Prizes, the Terrence DePres Award from Parnassus, and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. Poet Billy Collins also selected Boruch as part of his Poetry 180 program introducing American poets to high school students.

She is a professor of English and has directed the graduate writing program at Purdue since the program's beginning in 1987.

The reading will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. performance by the Hope College Jazz Ensemble.

The Knickerbocker Theatre is located in downtown Holland at 86 E. 8th St.
