Shaw's famous legendary wit is in full force as the romantic ideas of love, heroism, and war all get a new look from his perspective.
While word comes to Raina Petkoff that her fiancé has led his troops to an improbable victory she is agreeing to hide a Swiss mercenary in her bedroom. Her mocking of the Swiss' disregard for heroes and love of candy is challenged by the real news of her fiancé's victory and the revelation of who the "chocolate-cream" soldier really is.
Equity actress Brandy McClendon, who has created a following after her appearances as the princess in "Once Upon A Mattress," the wicked witch in "The Wizard of Oz" and Sylvia in "Sylvia," returns to HSRT for just "Arms and the Man" and the character of Raina.
She is joined by equity actress Allsion Watrous, who made a stunning debut as Mae Peterson in "Bye Bye Birdie" already this summer, as Catherine Petkoff. Kaci Gober is the belligerent maid, Louka, and Jason Miller plays Sergius Saranhoff against Samuel Holloway's Captain Bluntschli.
Equity actor Chip DuFord, Jared DeBacker, and David Paarlberg complete the cast.
Roger DeLaurier directed the play which also features costume designs by Hope theatre faculty member, Michelle Bombe.
In addition to the July 9 show, "Arms and the Man" runs on July 10, 14, 17, 19, 22, 27 August 4 and 6.
While at the box office, be sure to reserve tickets for the other great HSRT mainstage shows, including the popular musical, "Bye Bye Birdie," the Tony-award winning comedy, "Art," and HSRT's own creation "G.I. Jive." HSRT's "second stage" show is a funny and touching look at Little League baseball coaches in "Rounding Third," while Holland's Park Theatre is home to HSRT's popular cabaret offering, "All Night Diner." The Children's Performance Troupe is presenting Jon Scieszka's "The Stinky Cheese Man" and Louis Sachar's "Sideways Stories from Wayside School."
The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the Hope College campus, at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue in Holland. Prices range from $8-$25 for musicals, and $8-$18 for plays. Season coupons, ranging from $42-$60 are also available. Ticket office hours are 10 a.m-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and one hour before all showtimes. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 616-395-7890.
