A Hope College art student's creativity and desire to help others have merged in a benefit art sale scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from noon to 7 p.m. at the De Pree Art Center.
Danielle Nguyen-Quang of Holland has crafted 300 ceramic bowls that she is selling to help victims of the 2005 hurricanes. The proceeds from the sale will be given to the Red Cross.
"I'm very blessed with what I have," she said. "Many times I'm helping my friends or family, or people I know. I wanted to go beyond that to help people I don't know."
The sale will take place in the ceramics studio of the De Pree Art Center, with the bowls priced at $5 and above. Those who buy a bowl will also receive a free bonus: soup available at the studio and made by the Kletz Snack Bar just for the occasion and bread donated by the Holland Bread Company.
Nguyen-Quang moved to Holland from France about 10 years ago, and has been steadily taking classes in the department simply for the enjoyment of it. She noted that she was inspired to develop the bowl sale by a similar project held in the department on behalf of Habitat for Humanity a few years ago.
The De Pree Art Center is located on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.
