The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine will continue at Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. with a look at knee injuries.
Dr. Timothy Henne, who is a physician with River Valley Orthopaedics of Grand Rapids, will present "Advances in the Management and Rehabilitation of Meniscal Injuries in Athletes" at the hospital, located at 235 Wealthy S.E. in Grand Rapids.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The meniscus is the shock-absorbing cartilage of the knee. According to Henne, rehabilitation approaches have traditionally treated every "meniscus tear" in the same way, leading to treatment recommendations that are either overly protective or overly aggressive. Henne will focus on combining physical examinations, MRIs and arthoscopic findings to recognize tear patterns and tailor treatment.
The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports Medicine, which features a variety of topics, is designed for health care professionals with an interest in physically active patients, and is intended for students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-sponsored by Shoreline Orthopaedics, Orthopaedic Associates of Grand Rapids, GRSportsCenter and the college.
All lectures in the series begin at 7 p.m., and will be presented either at the college or at Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids.
