Hope College faculty member and pianist Andrew Le will perform a solo recital as part of the college's Music Faculty Recital series on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
His program is currently scheduled to include Joseph Haydn's "Fantasie in C major," Claude Debussy's "Etudes (complete) (1915)," and Frederic Chopin's "Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61."
Born in 1978 in Saigon, Vietnam, Le is currently a doctoral candidate at the Juilliard School in New York City. In the fall of 2005, he joined the music faculty at Hope College where he teaches studio piano, keyboard skills, and piano literature.
"Andrew Le's fingers evoke dreams in Technicolor," said renowned pianist Jerome Lowenthal.
Le has several prizes already in his young career, including the 2004 Hilton Head International Piano Competition. He also worked with John Perry at the Aspen Music Festival in the summer of 2004, where he was a winner of the concerto competition.
Other prizes and awards that he has received include the 1998 Toradze Concerto Institute Fellowship, Third Prize at the 1997 Gina Bachauer Young Artists International Piano Competition, and First Prize at the 1993 MTNA-Baldwin Competition. In 2003, Le was awarded a Whitaker Laureates Grant from the Music Academy of the West to pursue advanced studies overseas.
Le gave his New York debut in November of 2004, at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, which received critical acclaim.
"An impressive tour-de-force... Le performed triumphantly," said Harris Goldsmith of the "New York Concert Review."
Le holds degrees from the University of Michigan, and is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy.
In the fall of 2005, he joined the music faculty at Hope College where he teaches studio piano, keyboard skills and piano literature.
