Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association all-conference honors in swimming and diving have been presented to 13 Hope College athletes.
Both Hope teams, coached by John Patnott, finished runner-up in their respective MIAA standings.
Senior Kurtis Blohm of Wilmington, Ohio (Wilmington HS) was voted the league's most valuable swimmer for the second consecutive year. He was a triple individual champion and a member on four of Hope's league champion relay teams. He set MIAA records in the 50 and 100 freestyle and also won the 200 freestyle.
Senior Meagan O'Neil of Troy (Troy HS) has been voted All-MIAA a fourth consecutive year. Senior Lisa Ekdom of Holland (Holland Christian HS) and junior Lisa Smith of Dearborn (Dearborn HS) have received All-MIAA honors a third straight year while repeating a second time is junior Sarah Diekevers of Jenison (Jenison HS). First-time honorees are freshmen Andrea Keller of Kokomo, Ind. (Western HS) and Brittaney Reest of Holland (West Ottawa HS).
Blohm is an All-MIAA honoree a third consecutive year while sophomore Daniel Gardner of Alma (Alma HS) is being honored a second time. First-time honorees on the men's team include sophomore Wade Engers of Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS), freshman Jacob Hoekstra of Grandville (Grandville HS), sophomore Charles VanderBroek of Holland (Holland HS), senior Jeff Vroegindewey of Kalamazoo (Portage Central HS) and junior Kyle Waterstone of Holland (Holland HS).
Two of Hope's honorees are continuing family traditions. Jeff Vroegindewey's older brother Scott was an All-MIAA swimmer in 2000 and 2001 while Kyle Waterstone's older brother Matt was honored in 2004.
