Flying Dutch Crown Four Swimming All-Americans

HopeCollege crowned four NCAA All-Americans at the Division III national women's swimming and diving championships this past weekend in Minneapolis, Minn.

Junior Lisa Smith (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn HS) finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (:56.04) and 7th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.50) Freshman Brittaney Reest (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa HS) placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (:58.34). A year Smith was the fourth place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly.

The 400-yard freestyle relay was fifth (3:31.90) with a team of freshman Laura Ansilio (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township HS), senior Lisa Ekdom (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) and Lisa Smith.

Hope also had two honorable mention All-America performances.  The 200-yard freestyle relay won the consolation finals to finish ninth overall (1:37.45) with a team of Lisa Smith, Laura Ansilio,  junior Jennifer Carr (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) and Lisa Ekdom.  The 200-yard medley relay placed 11th (:48.80) with a team of Brittaney Reest, Lisa Ekdom, Lisa Smith and Laura Ansilio.

Hope finished 13th in a field of 53 teams, scoring 107 points. Emory, Ga. successfully defended its national title with 428 points.
