Shakespeare's joyous comedy holds nothing back in this fantastical story of nymphs, fairies, and those misguided human creatures. Nothing shows our true nature better than love, and nobody like Puck can mess things up for people.
One of Shakespeare's most popular works, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" follows young love into the enchanted forest. While Oberon tries to help love along, his not so able assistant Puck manages to confound the whole affair. Lovers profess affections for the wrong person, and the fairy queen herself falls in love with, well, a donkey.
The enduring and enchanting characters of Oberon and Puck have already appeared in HSRT's production of "Shakespeare in Hollywood." Equity Guest Artist Mark Kincaid and Carmel Javaher reprise the same roles in this production, allowing HSRT to perform some magic of its own.
Another Equity Arist, Chip DuFord, plays the luckless Bottom. Lucas Daniels as Lysander and Kate Lawrey as Hermia make up one of the young couples, joined by Joseph Gallina as Demetrius and Elizabeth Helitzer as Helena. Another 12 actors round out this large cast, all under the direction of HSRT Artistic Producer David Colacci.
In addition to the July 28 opening, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" shows at 8 p.m. on July 29, August 2, 4, 8, 10, and 12.
While at the ticket office, be sure to reserve tickets for the other great HSRT shows, including the musical "Oliver!", the comedy "Shakespeare in Hollywood," and the musical, "Dames at Sea." Snow Auditorium is host to the cutting-edge, contemporary piece, "Memory House." The popular cabaret show moves to Till Midnight Restaurant this year, and is the hilarious "Shakespeare Revue." The Children's Performance Troupe is presenting "Miss Nelson is Missing" and "The Rude Mechanicals."
The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the HopeCollege campus, at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue in Holland. Prices range from $8-$26 for musicals, and $8-$18 for plays. Ticket office hours are 10 a.m-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and one hour before all showtimes. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 616-395-7890.
