The statewide 2006 meeting of the Michigan Music Teachers Association (MMTA), being held at Hope College on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 8-10, will include two concerts open to the general public.

The first performance, featuring Hope faculty and a world premiere, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The second concert, a performance by the deMaine-Martin Duo, will be presented on Monday, Oct. 9, at 8:30 p.m., also in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited to both performances. Admission is free.

The October 8 performance features pianists Sheryl Iott Richardson and Jennifer Wolfe performing together, an organ work performed by Huw Lewis, and a solo piece performed by pianist Andrew Le.

In addition, faculty members Richard Piippo, cello, and Charles Aschbrenner, piano, will be joined by Jonathan Holden, clarinet, for the world premiere of Gregory Hutter's "Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano." The work was commissioned by the MMTA.

Hutter holds degrees from Western Michigan University, the University of Michigan, and Northwestern. He has been a faculty member at DePaul since 2002. His compositions have been performed by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic), the Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), and the Minnesota Orchestra, to name a few. Hutter's debut solo CD is being released on Albany Records in 2006.

The October 9 performance features the deMaine-Martin Duo. Robert deMaine, cellist, and Pauline Martin, pianist, are known for their seamless playing.

"These two must continue. Their beautiful sound, technical expertise and unanimity of conception are all the more impressive as a live performance" said Beaux Arts Trio pianist Menahem Pressler.

deMaine and Martin have been performing to growing audiences in Michigan and beyond since deMaine's 2002 appointment as Principal Cellist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, offering a wide range of repertoire including deMaine's original compositions.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on the corner of 12th Street and College Avenue.
