Over the Rhine will perform through the Hope College Concert Series on Monday, Dec. 4, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.
Tickets are $15 for the general public and $5 for those with a Hope College ID, and are available at the ticket office in the DeVos Fieldhouse.
Ohio-based Over the Rhine has released more than a dozen albums, beginning with "Till We Have Faces" in 1991 and continuing most recently through "Drunkard's Prayer" (2005) and "Live from Nowhere, Volume One" (2006) and a soon-forthcoming, full-length Christmas CD, "Snow Angels." The band's two-CD 2003 release "Ohio" appeared on numerous top-10 lists in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and was described as "a true confessional masterpiece" by "Paste" magazine and "a record of disarming beauty and stunning emotional focus" by "Performing Songwriter."
Over the Rhine started as a quartet but has taken a variety of forms through the years. Its nucleus is the husband-and-wife songwriting duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist.
The band is named for the downtown neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio, that it has called home since the beginning. Over the Rhine made its first recordings in 1989 and began performing together in 1990 in local Cincinnati clubs and gathering places. Currently signed with the Back Porch division of Virgin records, the band has since performed throughout the U.S. as well as abroad. Over the Rhine and its music have been referenced by name in prime time television shows such as "The X-Files" and "Angel," and its songs have been heard on "Third Watch," "Felicity," "Jack and Bobby," and "Mysterious Ways," as well as on international compilations alongside artists such as Radiohead, Coldplay and Dido.
Located in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse, the ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the ticket office will be closed on Thursday-Friday, Nov. 23-24.
The DeVos Fieldhouse is located facing Fairbanks Avenue between Ninth and 11th streets. The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. Eighth St.
