Athletics
As a member of the MIAA and NCAA Division III associations, Hope College sponsors 22 varsity sports for men and women. The college is home to the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship women’s basketball team.

Hope alumnus Perry Paganelli, Jr. has been selected to serve as the back judge on the officiating crew for Sunday's Super Bowl football game in Miami. The 1980 Hope graduate will be joined by a younger brother, Carl, who will be serving as the umpire. It is the first time in NFL history that two brothers have been assigned to officiate a Super Bowl game. Yet a third brother, Dino, officiates in the NFL, but was not eligible for consideration because of years of service. The Paganelli's father, Carl Sr., also had a distinguished football officiating career.

At Hope Perry played football and baseball honoring. As a senior he led the Flying Dutchmen in pass interceptions with four. He also achieved All-MIAA honors as a designated hitter his senior baseball season.

The Paganellis started their collegiate offciating careers in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Perry, who resides in Wyoming, Mich. and had a teaching/coaching career at Rogers High School in Grand Rapids, Mich., has been an NFL official for nine years. On Sunday he'll be the official in black-and-white stripes wearing #46.
