A literary classic finds new life on the stage when The Acting Company presents an acclaimed adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre." Considered by many as the best touring company in the United States, The Acting Company received the 2003 Tony Honoree for Excellence in Theatre.

"The Acting Company endures as the major touring classical theater in the United States," "The New York Times" has said.

Actors such as Kevin Kline, David Schramm, and Frances Conroy started with the company, which has also won awards from the L.A. Drama Critics Circle, the Obies, Audelco, and more. The Acting Company performed with GPS in 1991, and this time returns with Polly Teale's adaptation of Bronte's novel, which had a very successful run in London's West End.

The coming-of-age story showcases one of literature's most independent and strong-willed women. Recognized as a masterpiece when it was published in 1847, "Jane Eyre" remains a modern blend of passion, romance and suspense. Jane Eyre is obscure and plain, but locked up in the attic of her imagination lives a woman so passionate, so wild, so full of longing, she must be guarded night and day for fear of the havoc she would wreak.

Tickets for the performances are on sale at the ticket office in the DeVos Fieldhouse, and cost $16 for regular admission, $12 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 18 and under. The ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890.

The ticket office is in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse, which is located at 222 Fairbanks Ave., between Ninth and 11th streets. The DeWitt Center is located on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.
