A wide range of musical styles and instruments will bring DeVos Hall alive when Hope College presents its 19th annual Musical Showcase concert on Monday, March 5, at 8 p.m. in Grand Rapids.

Hope College students take the stage for the fast-paced, musical spectacular, during which audience members hear everything from opera to jazz.

The hardest part for those seeing the show is containing their enthusiasm, at least at first. In the tradition of the quick-moving musical event, audience members are asked to hold their applause until intermission and the end of the performance.

In addition to performances by all of the college's major musical groups, including the Chapel Choir, Orchestra and Wind Symphony, the concert will feature a broad mix of soloists, chamber groups and small ensembles.

The evening will open with vocalist Jared Graybiel singing Craig Carnelia's, "The Kid Inside." Next, mezzo-soprano Libby Skaff will sing "Chacun a son gaout" by Johann Strauss. Following that, Katie Ross, soprano, will sing "La Separarzione" by Rossini.

Abby Kosta, mezzo soprano, singing "Sleep" by Ivor Gurney, will be accompanied by Jane Bosko. Soprano Meghan Moore will follow with W.A. Mozart's "Una donna quindici a anni." Julia Hollenberg, also a soprano, will sing Francis Poulenc's "Violon." "Menuet"/Le Tombeau De Couperin" by Maurice Ravel will be performed by pianist Christopher Turbessi. Following will be a violin solo, "Fiddler"/Impressions of Childhood" by George Enescu, performed by Alexandru Hamzea. Cellist Lea Blackney will play "Drei Kleine Stucke op. 11" by Anton Webern.

Next, a jazz ensemble, featuring Steven Rodriguez on piano, Jeff Hatcher on bass, John Yehling on drums, and Noah Livingston on cajon, will be playing Chano Dominguez's "Oye Como Viene." Then the percussion ensemble, featuring Livingston, Yehling, and Mathew Mayes will be playing "Lift Off" by Russell Peck. Playing "Scherzo/Death and The Maiden" by Franz Schubert will the Tutti Quartet.

Christina Judson, Christopher Jordan, and Mark Story will play a trumpet trio titled "chiapanecas" by Rafael Mendez. Following will be a flute trio consisting of Carol Beth Steiner, Amanda Danielson, and Abigail Bolkema, who will be playing "Happy-Go-Lucky" by William Course. The Flute Choir will perform "Comedians Gallop" by Dmitri Kabelevsky. Finally, Chris Dekker, organ, will play Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fugue in G minor."
