Dr. Brad Gregory of the Notre Dame faculty will present the address "Calling and Commitment: The Making of a Catholic Scholar" on Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. in the Maas Center auditorium at Hope College as the college's ninth annual Pew Faith and Learning Lecture.
Dr. Brad Gregory of the Notre Dame faculty will present the address "Calling and Commitment: The Making of a Catholic Scholar" on Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. in the Maas Center auditorium at Hope College as the college's ninth annual Pew Faith and Learning Lecture.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Gregory has been a professor of history at the University of Notre Dame since 2003. He previously taught at Stanford University, and has held appointments at Harvard and Princeton Universities.
He specializes in late medieval and early modern Christianity, and the intellectual history of early modern Europe. He is the author of the award-winning "Salvation at Stake: Christian Martyrdom in Early Modern Europe," published by Harvard University Press in 1999, and the editor of "The Forgotten Writings of the Mennonite Martyrs" (2002), as well as the author of 19 scholarly articles and numerous conference papers.
Gregory holds undergraduate degrees in philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain and history from Utah State University, Master of Arts degrees in philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain and history from the University of Arizona, and his doctorate from Princeton University. He has held grants and fellowships from Harvard, Stanford and Princeton Universities, the Social Science Research Council, and the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, and has received teaching awards from Stanford University and the University of Notre Dame.
The Pew Faith and Learning Lecture is sponsored by Hope's Pew College Society Program. The Pew College Society at Hope exists to encourage students to pursue careers in college and university teaching as Christian service. The society was established in 1997, and has 43 junior and senior members.
