Hope College has promoted two employees in its business services office.

Doug VanDyken has been promoted to director of finance and business services, and Jacqueline Kacmar has been promoted to accounting manager. Both will assume their new responsibilities at the beginning of April.

VanDyken is succeeding Barry Werkman as director of business services. Werkman is retiring at the end of March after having been at the college since 1967.

VanDyken joined the Hope staff as director of accounting in 1987, the year that he graduated from the college with a major in accounting. He was named assistant controller in 1995 and was promoted to controller in 2001.

He received an MBA from Grand Valley State University in 1996. He and his wife Beth (Kooienga), who is also a 1987 Hope graduate, live in Zeeland and have three children.

Kacmar is assuming many of the responsibilities previously held by VanDyken, and is becoming a full-time employee after working in the office part-time as an accountant since 2000.

She was also employed at Hope from 1985 to 1988 as office manager for the De Pree Art Center, and has also held positions with ACCT-Now, Waldenbooks and Kohl's Department Store. In addition, she served as business manager for Hope Summer Repertory Theatre from 2003 through 2006.

Kacmar graduated from Hope in 1985 with a major in accounting. She and her husband Stephen, who is a 1984 Hope graduate, have two children.

Werkman, who is a 1964 Hope graduate, returned to the college in 1967 as an instructor in the department of economics and business administration. He was appointed assistant business manager in 1969, business manager in 1971, business manager and controller in 1985, and vice president for finance in 2001.

In 2005 the college named its building at 100 E. Eighth St. the "Anderson-Werkman Financial Center" in honor of Werkman and long-time colleague William K. Anderson, who retired that year as senior vice president for finance and advancement.
