The Haworth Inn and Conference Center at Hope College has been named an "Employer of the Year" by Kandu Incorporated of Holland.

The award was presented on Thursday, March 22, during Kandu's annual meeting, a dinner event that was held at the Haworth Inn and Conference Center.

Kandu Incorporated is a not-for-profit organization that couples a menu of business, product and services offerings with the overarching mission of building work skills and creating opportunities for people with employment barriers. Four of Kandu's client-employees are working as members of the Haworth Center's housekeeping staff.

The Haworth Inn and Conference Center was one of four organizations to receive Partner Awards from Kandu during the event. The Frauenthal Theatre of Muskegon was also honored as an "Employer of the Year," and "Business Partner of the Year" awards were presented to both Herman Miller's Van Wagoner plant of Spring Lake and the Magnum Coffee Roastery of Nunica.

The Haworth Inn and Conference Center is located in downtown Holland at 225 College Ave., between Ninth and 10th streets. The center has 50 hotel rooms open to the public as well as meeting and banquet facilities totaling approximately 10,000 square feet that can accommodate groups of up to 350 people.

The building, which opened in January 1997, is named in recognition of a combined corporate-family donation to Hope College by Haworth Inc. and the Haworth family. The center is managed for the college by Creative Dining Services of Zeeland.
