Hope College will be hosting two major meetings of statewide educators' associations on Friday, April 13.
The Directors and Representatives of Teacher Education Programs (DARTEP) in Michigan and the board of the Michigan Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) will both be meeting at the college's Haworth Inn and Conference Center.
Some 32 colleges and universities in Michigan, including Hope, have teacher-education programs. Approximately 100 educators from across the state will be attending the two meetings.
DARTEP provides an opportunity for teacher-education professionals to gather and discuss pertinent issues of the day and best practice in the preparation of teachers. DARTEP members also use the sessions to consider policy issues and administrative rules, and to coordinate their efforts with the staff of the Michigan Department of Education, who also attend the meetings. The organization's membership includes deans, directors of teacher education, directors of student teaching, certification officers, Michigan Department of Education officials and others interested in the preparation of Michigan K-12 teachers.
MACTE members include schools, colleges and departments of education from regionally accredited colleges and universities in Michigan whose institutions are members of the American Association for Teacher Education (AACTE), are engaged in the preparation of professional school personnel and have state program approval. Dr. Richard Mezeske, professor of education and chairperson of the department at Hope, is currently serving on MACTE's board of directors.
