HOLLAND - Hope College finished 18th at the NCAA Division III championships which concluded Friday, May 18. St. John's, Minn. topped the 35-team field with a 72-hole total of 1,204 strokes. Hope ended with 1,266 strokes.

Junior Tommy Yamaoka of Zeeland (Zeeland HS) achieved All-America distinction by placing 15th in the 185-player field. His average of 76.5 strokes per-round was the best-ever by a Hope golfer at nationals. Yamaoka, who was the national freshman of the year in 2005, was voted to this year's Ping All-America second team. He had tournament rounds of 77-75-78-76.

Senior captain Nate Golomb of Schoolcraft (Schoolcraft HS) led every golfer in the tournament in Par 3 efficiency. He averaged 3.06 strokes on the courses' eight par three holes. He finished 43rd in the final standings with rounds of 77-79-80-78.

Scores of other Hope golfers were: Steve Martindale (junior from Midland/H.H. Dow HS), 96th place (84-86-77-79); Ryan Sheets (junior from Saline/Saline HS), 102nd place (86-85-81-76); and Matt Lapham (junior from Brighton/Brighton HS), 115th place (83-81-85-86).
