The Hope Summer Repertory Theatre (HSRT) begins its 36th season with the hit musical, "Godspell," opening June 15th at 8 p.m. at downtown Holland's Knickerbocker Theatre.

The Knickerbocker, which was donated to Hope College in 1988, is a new venue for HSRT this season. As a venue for a multitude of Hope College's artistic performances such as the Visiting Writers Series, the Great Performance Series, and dance concerts, the Hope Summer Repertory Theatre is both proud and excited to kickoff this summer season with "Godspell" at the Knickerbocker in Holland's picturesque downtown, filled with the city's best shopping and dining locations.

"Godspell," the Broadway and off-Broadway musical opened in 1971 and has been a hit ever since. Encompassing a multitude of music genres, costumes, and choreography, "Godspell" has been performed all over the world and promises to keep any audience entertained.

"Godspell" is a high energy and heartwarming musical based on the gospel according to St. Matthew, and is full of lessons presented by Jesus about friendship, love, generosity, and faith. Featuring songs composed by Stephen Schwartz, also known for his work in the popular musical "Wicked," Godspell illuminates the exuberant personalities of Jesus and his followers in the musical numbers "Prepare Ye The Way of The Lord," "Day by Day," "By My Side," and "All For The Best."

Directed by David Colacci in his 22nd season with HSRT, and featuring a company of 17 performers, this show full of song and dance is sure to please. Joshua Brandenburg, most recently seen as Prince Dauntless in 2003's "Once Upon A Mattress," will play Jesus, alongside Teddy Youdain as John the Baptist/Judas.

The show continues throughout the summer with performances at 8 p.m. on June 16, 21, 26, 28, 30; July 5, 23, 25; August 1, 4, 6, 9, and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on July 26.
