First-year students who have received the Hope College Distinguished Artist Award in Music will present a recital on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Each year at Hope College up to 60 Distinguished Artist Award (DAA) scholarships are given to students with strong academic records and outstanding creative abilities in art, dance, music, theatre or creative writing. Renewable for four years, the DAAs provide eligible students with $2,500 each year toward their college costs. DAA recipients also take part in a variety of opportunities set up to increase their creative experience and technical knowledge in their chosen field.
The program will feature vocalist Sarah Ashcroft of Holland; violinist Emily Bauss of Kalamazoo; pianist Julia Becker of Glenview, Ill.; Lydia Benish of Cleveland, Ohio, playing French horn; Jonathan Brooks of Hudsonville also playing French horn; Emily Brower of Hudsonville, playing alto saxophone; vocalist Lauren Conley of White Lake; violinist Amanda Dykman of LaGrange Ill.; jazz pianist Larry Figueroa of Holland; Stan Galdys of Grandville, playing bass trombone; jazz guitarist Michael Hobson of Flushing; Leah Hottel of Westlake, Ohio, playing organ; pianist Joy Oosterbaan of Byron Center; violist Elena Poletto of Aurora, Ill.; pianist Rachel Postma of Jenison; vocalist Casey Sullons of Chelsea; Michael Weiss of Glenview, Ill., playing jazz saxophone; and vocalist Jonathan Weppler of Libertyville, Ill.
