A total of four current or former Hope College faculty members will perform "The Song of the Flute" on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

The performance features faculty members Julie Sooy, flute, Linda Dykstra, voice, and Jennifer Wolfe, piano, with Rebecca Van De Walker, flute.

The unique combination of flute, voice, and piano will be heard in Claude Debussy's "Syrinx," Catherine McMichael's "The Mariko Suite," Jules  Demersseman's   "Grande Fantaisie De Concert" and David Diamond's "The Mad Maid's Song," as well as a work by Joyce Mekeel and Franz Doppler. "Rigoletto-Fantaisie," written by Franz and Karl Doppler, will also be performed.

Sooy has been teaching at Hope for 10 years, and has also played with WestShore, Bowling Green, and Perrysburg symphonies. She performs regularly with a worship team at Central Wesleyan Church in Holland.  Her bachelor's and master's degrees from Bowling Green State University are in flute performance and education.

Dykstra, lyric soprano, joined the Hope faculty in 1997. Her undergraduate and graduate degrees were earned at the University of Maryland. She spent seven years in Germany, performing numerous lieder recitals, oratorios, and with the Kleines Opern Ensemble Berlin. In 1997 she was awarded the Rosa Ponselle Voice Teacher of the Year Gold Medallion.

Wolfe is an instructor and staff accompanist at the college. She holds master's degrees in choral conducting and piano performance from MSU and the University of Illinois. In addition to her classroom teaching, she directs the Women's Chamber Choir.

Van De Waker is a former Hope faculty member and is an active performer in the area.  She received her bachelor's degree from New England Conservatory with additional studies with Jeanie Baxtresser.
