Anathallo with special guest Apollo will perform through the Hope College Concert Series on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 with a Hope College ID, and are available at the ticket office in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse.
The seven-musician Anathallo, which originated in Mt.Pleasant and is now based in Chicago, Ill., has been characterized as "theatrical indie rock meets 'marching band gone wild.'" In its latest album, "Floating World," some of the multi-instrumentalist performers focus on the standard conventions of guitar, bass and drums, while others perform instruments including percussion, trombone, glockenspiel, flugelhorn and piano. "Floating World," which has been released through Artist Friendship, an imprint of Nettwerk Music Group and follows four self-released albums, has its thematic genesis in East Asian folk tradition but draws on other influences as well.
Apollo will open the concert. The group's music drifts from inspirational driving guitar rock to soft string-baked piano melodies in exploring ideas, tastes and emotions.
The four-member Apollo is also native to Michigan. Apollo has played a variety of venues, ranging from The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, to the Shelter in Detroit, to the Van's Warped Tour '07 at ComericaPark, to Chicago for an indie film premiere.
The ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
The concert is being co-sponsored by the Hope College Concert Series and the college's Indie Music Club.
The DeVos Fieldhouse is located at 222 Fairbanks Ave., between Ninth and 11th streets. The Knickerbocker Theatre is located in downtown Holland at 86 E. Eighth St.
The doors will open at 7:30 p.m. the night of the concert.
