Former Hope College music professor and academic administrator Morrette
(Morry) L. Rider died on January 12, 2008 in Eugene, Oregon. He was 86.

Dr. Rider served on the faculty as Professor of Music from 1947-75. He was Dean for Academic Affairs from 1967-75. While at Hope he was the founding conductor of the Symphonette. Dr. Rider was a professional violinist.

He concluded his professional career as Professor of Music and Dean of the School of Music at the University of Oregon, retiring in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his wife. Wanda Nigh Rider, on May 13, 2007.
He is survived by a daughter, Rhonda, who is Coordinator of Chamber Music at The Boston Conservatory.

A private service will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at the Rest-Haven Memorial Park Funeral Home in Eugene, Ore. A memorial service will be held in Oregon at a later date yet to be determined.
