A total of four Hope College students participated in the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Honors Band, which presented a concert on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Alma College.

The band featured students from several colleges and universities, including Albion, Alma, Calvin, Cornerstone, Grand Valley, Hillsdale, Hope, Olivet and Spring Arbor. The band's members were chosen from lists submitted by conductors at the participating schools.

The participating Hope students were senior Rachel Daley (flute) of Cleveland, Ohio; senior Catherine Ellis (percussion) of Hudson; junior Joy Oosterbaan (French horn) of Byron Center; and senior Allison Walter (bassoon) of Mandeville, La.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Honors Band presents a concert each year. The participants spend the day rehearsing together as preparation for their concert in the evening.

The band is led by a guest conductor. This year's conductor was Dr. Russel Mikkelson, who is director of university bands and associate professor of conducting at The Ohio State University.

The first Michigan Intercollegiate Honors Band event was held in 1972.
