The success of Hope's basketball program this season continues to receive recognition on a national level.

Men's basketball coach Glenn Van Wieren has been named the Division III Coach-of-the-Year by the publication Basketball Times.  It is the second time in his career that Van Wieren has been honored for the publication.  In 1995 he was named the Division III co-coach of the year.

Two senior players can be considered consensus All-Americans.  Marcus Vanderheide has been honored four times as an All-American  -- the National Basketball Coaches Association (first team), Basketball Times (third team), DIII News (first team)  and D3hoops.com (third team) while Jordyn Boles has been honored three times -- the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (first team), DIII News (first team) and D3hoops.com (honorable mention).

Van Wieren has guided Hope's basketball fortunes for 31 years.  This season he achieved his 600th collegiate coaching victory.  He reached that milestone faster than any NCAA Division III coach in history.  This year's team advanced to the final four of Division III where they finished in third place.  The team's 28 victories tied a Hope single season recorsd for wins.  The Flying Dutchmen won the MIAA championship, the 17th under Van Wieren.  His career record is 618-203 (75%).

Vanderheide and Boles are being honored for their roles in Hope's MIAA championship season. Vanderheide was voted the MIAA's most valuable player and was named the Great Lake region's most outstanding DIII player. Boles was a three-time All-MIAA honoree who over her career started in a school-record 120 consecutive games, compiling an amazing 110-10 record.  Vanderheide is from Grandville, Mich. (Calvin Christian HS) and Boles is from Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Central HS).
