IDT (InSync Dance Theatre), an affiliate company of the department of dance at Hope College, will be performing by invitation on Saturday, April 19, at the Dance Michigan: Choreographers' Showcase in Saline sponsored by the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet in celebration of Michigan Dance Day.
IDT (InSync Dance Theatre), an affiliate company of the department of dance at Hope College, will be performing by invitation on Saturday, April 19, at the Dance Michigan: Choreographers' Showcase in Saline sponsored by the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet in celebration of Michigan Dance Day.
During the event, dancers will join together to perform works by both experienced and emerging choreographers that reflect the diversity and creativity in dance. Styles performed will range from ballet to belly dance.
Participating artists come from companies, colleges and studios from throughout Michigan. In addition to IDT, groups participating include: Ann Arbor Civic Ballet; Lansing Chamber Dance; UM Dance Department; and Unveiled Dance Company.
IDT will present "Zion's Road Sings & Mourns," an orchestrated tap work layering the dynamics of rhythm dance with the imagery of Greek iconography. Dancers create complex foot music as they tell the story of choosing a journey that leads into light. The work premiered in Holland during the Dance 32 concert at Hope in March 2006 and was presented in July 2007 at the Orthodox Academy of Crete - Greece.
The performers will include four Hope students--senior Robyn Anderson of St. Helens, Ore.; senior Carolyn Brandis of Gansevoort, N.Y.; senior Pamela Rexius of Milford; and sophomore Lacey Williams of Ithaca--and Rosanne Barton-DeVries, who is director of IDT and a lecturer in the college's department of dance.
In addition to performing, Barton-DeVries will also present "becoming rhythm," a six-minute improvography exploring the "story" of building foot music.
The program will take place on Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m. in the Saline High School Ellen Ewing Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $10, with admission free for those five and under, and are available at the door or online at www.annarborcivicballet.com.
