The Hope College Arts Division is encouraging the community to "Face Art" in its first annual Spring Arts Festival, which will run Monday-Friday, April 14-18.

Dance, visual art, theatre, music, and creative writing are all being showcased in a one-week celebration of the arts.

All events are free and open to the public.

While each event focuses on one main event, all will feature some tie-in with another area of the arts. Potential combinations include artists painting to live music, or dancers at an art gallery event, or music and dance presented together.

On Monday, April 14, the Women's Chamber Choir will be performing at St. Francis de SalesChurch at 7:30 p.m. On the same night a Student Dance Concert will take place at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre.

Tuesday, April 15, will feature the Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel while another Student Dance Concert will be performed at 8 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre.

The Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series will take center stage on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. when writer Karen Joy Fowler, author of "The Jane Austen Book Club," presents a reading. The Jazz Ensemble will precede her reading with a performance at 6:30 p.m. Both events are in the Knickerbocker Theatre.

Thursday, April 17, will highlight the department of theatre's performance of "The Rose and the Rime" at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the same evening. A video made during the production's original run at Hope will be shown on a rotating basis from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the De Pree Art Center. The evening will also feature extended hours for the on-going Senior Art Student Show in the De Pree gallery, featuring visits from other arts-related areas, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The weeklong celebration will end on Friday, April 18, with the Wind Symphony performing in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
