Dr. Michael Misovich, associate professor of engineering at Hope College, has been appointed to the Editorial Advisory Board of "Chemical Engineering Process," the flagship publication of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
AIChE is the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with more than 40,000 members from 93 countries. Published monthly, "Chemical Engineering Process" seeks to provide essential technical and professional information to the AIChE membership, which includes professionals in industry, academia and government.
The publication covers subjects such as choosing among design or equipment options; troubleshooting a process unit; designing specific plant hardware; assessing the likely impact of emerging technology; reviewing key trends and challenges in engineering research and development; and evaluating continuing-education needs.
Misovich is currently the only college or university educator on the nine-member Editorial Advisory Board.
Misovich has been a member of the Hope faculty since 2002. His research interests include phase equilibrium, equations of state, and engineering education and assessment. He has written several articles published in professional journals and made numerous presentations during professional conferences, including during annual meetings of the AIChE.
He mentors Hope students through collaborative faculty-student research during both the school year and summer. This summer he and a team of two students are investigating generalized methods for estimating vapor pressure and other physical properties. The research is being supported in part by the National Science Foundation "Research Experiences for Undergraduates" (NSF-REU) grant held by the departments of physics and engineering and by an undergraduate-research fellowship sponsored by the Michigan Space Grant Consortium (MSGC).
Prior to joining the Hope faculty he had been an associate professor of chemical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., since 1998. He was an assistant professor of chemical engineering at Villanova University in Pennsylvania from 1991 to 1998, and an assistant professor of paper science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point from 1988 to 1991.
Misovich graduated from Michigan State University in 1981 with a Bachelor Arts degree in economics, and Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and chemical engineering. Also at Michigan State University, he completed a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering in 1984; a Master of Science degree in computer science in 1988; and a doctorate in chemical engineering in 1988.
