Several Hope College residence halls will be open to children trick-or-treating on Halloween during the college's "Safe Halloween" event.
A total of 10 residence halls will be open to young trick-or-treaters on Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children 12 and under from the community are invited to visit and admission is free, although they are asked to wear a costume and must be accompanied by an adult.
To participate, children must obtain a special Hope identifier at an information tent during the event's hours on the lawn in front of the DeWitt Center on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street. In addition, the Dance Marathon student organization will be selling cider and hot chocolate at the tent to help raise funds for Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
The participating halls include Cook, Dykstra, Gilmore, Kollen, Lichty, Phelps, Scott, Van Vleck, Voorhees and Wyckoff. Trick-or-treating will take place on the first floor of each of the halls, with the exception of Phelps Hall, which will host trick-or-treaters on the second floor. In addition, selected cottage housing units, those with their porch lights on, will also be hosting trick-or-treaters.

° Gilmore Hall is located on 10th Street at Columbia Avenue.
° Kollen Hall is located between 12th and 13th streets at Columbia Avenue.
° Lichty Hall is located on 13th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
° Phelps Hall is located on 10th Street at Columbia Avenue.
° Scott Hall is located on 13th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
° Van Vleck Hall is located in the central campus, south of 10th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
° Voorhees Hall is located on 10th Street at College Avenue.
° Wyckoff Hall is located on 13th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
