Pianist Adam Clark of the Hope College music faculty will perform on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The program will include Sergei Prokofiev's "Piano Sonata No. 7"; Ludwig Van Beethoven's "Sonata in A-flat Major, Op. 110"; and additional works by Alexander Scriabin, Claude Debussy, and Johann Sebastian Bach/Leopold Godowsky.
Clark joined the Hope faculty as an assistant professor of music in 2008 and currently teaches courses in applied piano, keyboard skills and piano pedagogy.
He earned his DMA in piano performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), while his bachelor's and master's degrees were completed at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Texas at Austin. His former teachers include Charles Asche, Nancy Garrett, and Eugene and Elizabeth Pridonoff.
An active soloist and chamber musician, Clark has performed to great acclaim throughout the United States, as well as in Belgium and Italy. Of his playing, "New York Concert Review Magazine" wrote, "Clark brought out much beauty in Chopin's soulfully embroidered melodies. He played with thoughtful expressiveness," and "achieved an excellent blend [with the orchestra]."
His competition awards include first prize in the San Luis Obispo Symphony Concerto Competition and second prize in the CCM Concerto Competition. He has been noted for his role as producer and performer for the "Back to Bach" series in Cincinnati as well, which presented, over the course of two evenings, the complete solo piano concerti of J.S. Bach.
An active pedagogue, Clark has also lectured on diverse topics ranging from technical and musical development to 20th century pedagogical literature. He has given presentations for the Holland Piano Teachers Forum and the Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum (GP3) and is a regular attendee of notable conventions including the MTNA National Convention and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy.
