The Hope College Orchestra and Symphonette will perform on Wednesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The two featured works of the concert will be the "Rienzi Overture," by Richard Wagner, and the Symphony No. 3 "Scotch" Op. 56, by Felix Mendelssohn.  The concert brings the orchestra's 2008-09 season to a close.

The orchestra is directed by Richard Piippo of the HopeCollege faculty.  An avid performer and promoter of chamber music, Piippo also brings a wealth of solo, orchestral, and conducting experiences to audiences. He has baccalaureate and master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  Since 1996, Piippo has spent his summers on the faculty of Seminar at Western Michigan University, as conductor, solo performer, teacher and coach. His work with the Detroit Symphony has included tours of Europe, Japan, Carnegie Hall and numerous recordings.  Piippo joined the Hope faculty in the fall of 1999 as professor of cello/chamber music and conductor of orchestras.
