The honors continue to arrive for Hope senior softball standout Kelli Duimstra of Hudsonville, Mich. (Hudsonville HS).
Earlier this week the power-hitting first baseman was voted the most valuable player in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
She has taken the first step toward national recognition by being named to the all-district team by the National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. As a first team honoree she is now eligible for Division III All-America consideration.
Duimstra's accomplishments beyond the field of play are also being recognized. She has been named to the all-region academic team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is now a candidate for Academic All-America recognition.
A two-time All-MIAA first team honoree, Duimstra this spring set an MIAA record for home runs (7) as she batted .442. For the season the team co-captain batted .434, tied the school record for home runs (10) and set a new Hope mark for total bases (97). She was also outstanding defensively with a .992 fielding average. A .358 career hitter, she ended as Hope's all-time-leader for RBIs with 123 and second in home runs (19).
A geology major and psychology minor, Duimstra maintained a 3.76 cumulative grade point average. As a junior she received an education department award for academic achievement in science and mathematics.
