The Hope Summer Repertory Theatre continues the season with the unstoppable comedy Cmplt Wrks of Wm Shkspr...Abrdgd by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield opening on July 10th at 8:00 p.m. in the DeWitt Theatre.
Last performed by HSRT in 1998, watch as three actors take a high speed trip through Shakespeare's works, a writer you thought you knew! Be ready for a night pratfalls, puns, willful misreadings of names and dialogue, clunky female impersonations, clean-cut ribaldry, and broad burlesque. This show will be hard to resist, be it the rap version of Othello or the fantasia of zany energy. This version of Shakespeare is sure to keep you laughing while you enjoy a little song and dance.
The small cast of three includes a tight knit group of men, all of which were the stars of last season's Forever Plaid, and HSRT favorites returning for yet another summer together.
Equity Guest Artist, Jonathon Spivey, has been seen in HSRT's Shakespeare in Hollywood, Kiss Me Kate, The Foreigner, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. This summer he is also playing the hotel manager in Room Service. His recent regional credits include Itchy in the world premiere of Dog Park: the Musical at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Around the World in 80 Days at Sierra Repertory Theatre, Black Gold at Phoenix Theatre, The Merchant of Venice at Richmond Shakespeare, The Glass Menagerie (Tom), The Altruists (Ronald), and Gypsy (w/ Lorna Luft).
Michael Hanson, who can also been seen in this season's Room Service as Harry Binion, and Dog Park: the Musical as Bogie, is returning for his third summer. Previous HSRT credits include The Foreigner (Rev. David) and Kiss Me Kate (Paul).
Teddy Yudain received his BFA in Acting from the University of Connecticut and now lives in New York City. This season he can also be seen as Leo Davis in Room Service and as Champ inDog Park: the Musical. He was previously seen as Ellard (The Foreigner), Hortensio (Kiss Me Kate), Judas (Godspell), Monsieur Bonfaux (The Hypochondriac), and the clumsy Busboy (She Loves Me).
Directing both shows this year is James Saba, an HSRT favorite, hailing from New York City. Past HSRT shows as a director include Forever Plaid, Petite Rouge, Lost in Yonkers, Junie B. Jones, The Shakespeare Revue, Scapin, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Sylvia, and over twenty-five productions for the Children's Performance Troupe. Regionally he directed All in the Timing and 7 Stories (Old Globe Theatre), Blithe Spirit, Lucky Stiff and The Philadelphia Story (WebsterUniversity), Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol (North Coast Repertory Theatre), The Mystery of Irma Vep (Diversionary Theatre) and Girl Scouts of America (Fringe NYC). As an actor he recently appeared in the premiere stage production of Kite Runner at San Jose Repertory Theatre and Centennial Casting at Virginia Stage Company.
Performances continue on July 11, 15, 29, August 1, 3, 7, 11, and 14.
Tickets are on sale through the DeVos Fieldhouse ticket office. Prices range from $8-$26 for musicals, and $8-$18 for plays.
