The Hope College Concert Series will feature AG Silver with special guest Josh Schicker on Tuesday, Oct, 13, at 8 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.
Admission is $5 for the general public and free for Hope students with a current ID. Tickets will be available at the door.
AG Silver consists of Jon Ornée, vox, piano, guitar; Chris McKellar, guitars; Craig Vanderwier, drums; and Josh Blom. Bass, Blom and Ornée are both Hope alumni, as is Schicker.
Before embarking on a nation-wide "Clean Water for Africa" Tour, which began in September of 2008, AG Silver spent much of the summer locked in the studio crafting "Love Keeps No Score," a five-song EP that is a progression from where the band left off on its full-length album from 2006 "Wake Up and Smell Reality." This time, though, AG Silver enlisted the help of mixing guru Craig Alvin (Athlete, Eisley, Chevelle).
"We were really proud of our last album," said lead singer Jon Ornée, "but the thing we hear again and again, from fans is that the live show is so much better. With that in mind, we tried to keep the new tunes a little more raw in an attempt to capture the energy that the listener would feel at one of our shows."
The four members of AG Silver regularly use the element of surprise to spruce up their live show. One minute the band may be in the hushed chorus of a ballad and the next, all four members are playing an intricate drumline inspired percussive concoction. AG Silver's dynamic live show helped them win Michigan's largest Battle of the Bands in 2003 and has been captivating college students across the country for the past three years.
AG Silver officially released "Love Keeps No Score" to a sold-out crowd at the Park Theatre in Holland on Dec. 6, 2008. It was the band's first hometown show in eight months and capped off a whirlwind journey during which time the band recorded the new album, toured in over 30 states, racked up nearly 30,000 miles on the band RV and raised over $15,000 for the organization Blood: Water Mission.
AG Silver first partnered with Blood: Water Mission for a "Clean Water for Africa" Tour in the fall of 2008. The goal of the tour is to raise awareness about the clean water crisis in the continent of Africa and also to help raise money to dig clean water wells in communities that desperately need them (more information is available at www.agsilver.com/cleanwater).
2009 finds the band continuing their partnership with Blood: Water Mission on their "Clean Water for Africa" Tour while also spending a significant amount of time pursuing some non-touring aspects of the music world including national radio campaigns.
The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 E. Eighth St. The doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
