A group of 11 piano majors from Interlochen Arts Academy will perform a 70-minute recital of classical piano music on Monday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel at Hope College.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

Selected from a department of 34 piano majors, these high school students from freshman through senior grades are from Indonesia, China, Russia, Vietnam, Japan and Korea, as well as the United States. They are touring four cities in Michigan over a two-day period.

The diverse program will feature music by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, Bartok and Turkish composer Fazil Say.

One of the students is a "Gilmore Fellow" who will be performing in a master class at the Gilmore International Piano Festival in Kalamazoo.

The students will be accompanied by academy piano faculty members Dr. Michael Coonrod and Dr. Thomas Lymenstull.

The winter educational program at Interlochen includes 465 students from the United States and other countries around the world, in a vigorous academic schedule complementing a fine arts program with majors in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, and the new film, design and production major. The piano curriculum includes private lessons, master classes, chamber music, as well as piano literature, theory and keyboard skills classes.

In addition to performing in Holland, the group is also appearing in Owosso, Commerce Township and St. Joseph.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave., on College Avenue at 12th Street.
