Two Hope track & field athletes who achieved NCAA All-America honors have been named Academic All-Americans.

Senior Jeffrey Minkus of Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Glenbard West HS) and junior John Donkersloot of Zeeland (Zeeland East HS) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine  Academic All-America track & field and cross country teams.

Donkersloot has been named to the 15-member first team while Minkus is a third team honoree.

The Academic All-America program sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both athletes achieved All-America honors from the NCAA and U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their medal-winning performances at the Division III national championships in May.

Donkersloot finished third in the high jump for the second straight year while Minkus became Hope's first All-American in the triple jump with a fourth place finish.

Both athletes have maintained a 3.9 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, Minkus as a mathematics major and a minor in Spanish and Donkersloot with a chemistry major and a minor in philosophy.

This past spring Minkus was named to Phi Beta Kappa, the highest academic honor that can be presented a senior student, while Donkersloot was named to Mortar Board, a national honor society for undergraduates.
