The "Sundays at 2" recital series coordinated by the department of music at Hope College will feature the Lyric Trio on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Consisting of violinist Martha Walvoord, cellist John Burton and pianist Young-Hyuan, the ensemble will be performing the "Trio in c minor Op. 66" by Felix Mendelssohn and the "Archduke Trio in B-Flat Major" by Ludwig van Beethoven. The night before the performance, the group will be playing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Holland Symphony.

° A West Michigan native, Dr. Martha Walvoord, is the assistant professor of violin at the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as an active chamber musician, educator, soloist and recitalist.  She has performed across the United States and Costa Rica, and has also appeared recently in China, Hong Kong and Spain. Walvoord was the concertmaster of the West Shore Symphony Orchestra in Muskegon, and is a past artist-in-residence at Hope. As an educator, she is the sole recipient of the TexASTA 2010 Marjorie Keller Young Teacher of the Year award. Walvoord earned her DMA and her MM at the University of Michigan and her BM at Rice University.

° Dr. John Burton is currently professor of music and chair of the department of music at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he teaches chamber music. He has taught at Hardin-Simmons University and Texas Christian University, and has had many administrative experiences. Burton has been principal cello of many ensembles, from the Houston Ballet Orchestra to the Abilene Philharmonic. Burton has also participated in many festivals, chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout the southwest. After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance and Master of Music degree in cello performance from Rice University, he continued his studies at the University of Southern California, receiving the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in cello performance, and did post-doctoral study at Harvard University.

° Dr. Young-Hyun Cho, assistant professor of piano at the University of Texas at Arlington, has developed her career as a versatile pianist, appearing as an orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Having performed with the University of Texas at Arlington Symphony Orchestra, Cho has appeared with orchestras such as the Eastman Symphony Orchestra, and the Euro-Asian Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performing credentials have been further enhanced through prize winnings in international and national piano competitions. She was selected as a member of the Eastman Chamber Music Society and repeatedly nominated for the Excellence in Accompanying Award at the Eastman School of Music.  Cho received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, a master's degree and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory, and a bachelor's degree from the Seoul Nationa lUniversity.
