Hope College, as part of its commitment to honor the memory of Fennville basketball player Wes Leonard, who died from sudden cardiac arrest in March, has contributed the concessions proceeds from a district tournament game to the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation.

In the hours after the player's death, Hope College offered its DeVos Fieldhouse for Fennville to play its district high school tournament basketball games.

Use of the fieldhouse and services of staff at the first game were provided free of charge and net proceeds from concessions sales were pledged to the foundation.

A check for $3,991 has been presented to the Holland/Zeeland Foundation which will administer the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation.

"We hope that our gift, as part of the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation Foundation, will provide the opportunities and education necessary to make sure that all steps are taken to avoid a tragedy like that of Wes," said Tim Schoonveld, co-athletics director at Hope. "We are grateful and humbled to have been part of the process and continue to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Leonard family and the Fennville Community."
