The Women's Chamber Choir of Hope College will perform its fall concert with 12th Street Harmony and Luminescence on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

The program will include a wide array of music, paying special attention to the words and music of female poets and composers. Chief among the works being featured will be a set of three poems by the African-American poet Lucille Clifton, set to music by Gwyneth Walker, tracing the arc of a woman's life from girlhood through motherhood. In addition, guest singer Heather Benson, a senior from Muskegon who is dual-majoring in vocal music performance and vocal music education, will perform an unusual setting of "Old Mother Hubbard."

The Women's Chamber Choir's set includes a spiritual, a traditional song from South Africa, music of the Baroque period accompanied by strings, and an energetic piece for piano and women's voices from 1998. The choir will be accompanied by solo violin, string quartet, piano and hand percussion.

The choir will be joined by Hope's close-harmony groups, Luminescence (women) and 12th Street Harmony (men).

The Women's Chamber Choir, established in 2001, is an auditioned group of 20-25 Hope students, directed by Jennifer Wolfe, adjunct assistant professor of music.

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church is located at 195 W. 13th St., on the corner of 13th Street and Maple Avenue.
