Hope College will host its fifth annual High School Honors Band Festival concluding with a concert on Saturday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The group will be composed of about 90-100 students who are nominated by their band director or private teacher, and will rehearse on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.  The students will work with Hope College faculty member Dr. Gabe Southard on challenging band repertoire and will meet with various faculty members for master classes.

This year the band will be playing several diverse pieces, including Eric Whitacre’s “Cloudburst”; Carlos Chavez’s “Sinfonia India”; William Schuman’s “When Jesus Wept”; Dana Wilson’s “Kah! Out of Darkness” or “To Set the Darkness Echoing”; and Howard Hanson’s “Chorale and Alleluia.”

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave., on College Avenue at 12th Street.
