Two Hope athletes have received honors for academic achievement through the Capital One Academic All-Amedrica program.Chelsea Wiese of Rochester, a 2012 graduate who earlier was honored as the outstanding NCAA Division III female scholar in women's swimming and diving, has been named an Academic All-American in the Division III at-large category. Track standout Christian Calyore of Naples, Fla. has been named to the program's all-district track/cross country team and now becomes eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Two Hope athletes have received honors for academic achievement through the Capital One Academic All-Amedrica program.Chelsea Wiese of Rochester, a 2012 graduate who earlier was honored as the outstanding NCAA Division III female scholar in women's swimming and diving, has been named an Academic All-American in the Division III at-large category. Track standout Christian Calyore of Naples, Fla. has been named to the program's all-district track/cross country team and now becomes eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Wiese was the recipient of the Elite 89 award as the top scholar-athlete at the NCAA swimming and diving championships this year. She was an accounting major who maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average and received Phi Beta Kappa honors. Co-captain of the women's swimming/diving team, she was the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion in the 200 and 400 yard individual medley events and was a member of the Hope relay team that competed in five events at the national championship meet. The at-large category recognizes athletes in the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.

 Calyore, a 2012 graduate who majored in engineering, maintained a 3.87 grade point average. Co-captain of the men's track and field team, he was the MIAA champion in the 110-meter hurdles.

Earlier this spring junior Laura Tjepkema of Dorr was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in softball. A total of 42 Hope student-athletes have received the Academic All-America honor since the program started in 1973.

The Capital One Division III Academic All-America program is sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure.
