The Hope College Concert Series will feature Sondre Lerche, with special guests Fancy Colorsto, on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. in the DeWitt Center main theatre.
Sondre Lerche will headline the show with a full band, highlighting his extensive skill as a songwriter and the widely-varied influences found in his sound. Hailing from Norway, Lerche caused a great amount of excitement in both America and Europe with his 2001 debut album. Since then, he has released six highly-acclaimed albums, as well as the soundtrack to the movie “Dan in Real Life.”
He is recognized for his ability to draw a balance between the thoughtful and unique style of his sound and the immediate catchiness of the songwriting. “Paste Magazine” called his music “methodically infectious.”
Lerche has retained the interest and appreciation of fans and critics alike throughout his career. “Rolling Stone Magazine” commented on his growth as an artist, noting, “The man has grown since his early-2000s days as an indie-pop prodigy: Now a dependably intriguing wordsmith, he still shows no shortage of unusually intelligent quirks.”
AllMusic has said of him, “Lerche’s songwriting is tricky but light on its feet, emotionally nuanced and quick-witted too. His voice is rich and sweet, the musicians he plays with are always good, and his musical taste is always spot-on.”
The band Fancy Colors, from New York City, will open the night. The band consists of four musicians who have also been members of various bands such as Of Montreal and Jupiter One.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for the general public, $10 for members of the college’s faculty and staff, and $5 for Hope students, and are available at the ticket office in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse. The ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be called at (616) 395-7890. Public tickets are also available for purchase online at https://tickets.hope.edu/ticketing. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
The DeVos Fieldhouse is located at 222 Fairbanks Avenue, between Ninth and 11th streets. The DeWitt Center is located at 141 E. 12th St., on Columbia Avenue at 12th Street.
The doors will open on the night of the concert at 7:30 p.m.
