Hope College will present The Andreas Kapsalis and Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo on Friday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

The Andreas Kapsalis and Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo not only celebrates the tradition of guitar performance, but also includes current repertoire and their work as composers.  The two musicians are a part of a movement whose aim is to build the new repertoire for the next generation of guitar players.

“Jazziz Magazine” has describes the duo with, “Kapsalis, a player possessed of exquisite grace and touch and also, when he desires, blinding speed, brandishes a steel-string acoustic throughout. Croatian native Ivanovic, a widely acknowledged virtuoso in his own right, sticks with a nylon-string classical model. The music these two young men make together defies simple classification.”

Their eponymous debut recording has received rave reviews. “Guitar Player Magazine” said, “Combining the sounds of steel- and nylon-string acoustic guitars in a stew seasoned with multifinger attacks, percussive beats, and heavy Serbian and Greek influences, Kapsalis and Ivanovic have created one tasty experimental dish…the record sounds huge.”

Tickets for the Friday, Sept. 28, concert are $10 for the general public, $7 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 18 and under, and are on sale at the ticket office in the main lobby of the DeVos Fieldhouse.  The ticket office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be called at (616) 395-7890.  Tickets are also available online at tickets.hope.edu/ticketing/
