The Hope College Wind Ensemble will perform on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The public is invited.  Admission is free.

The main piece in the program is a bassoon concerto, “Avatar,” by Dana Wilson, and features Hope faculty member John Clapp.  The piece is based on the ancient belief that an avatar is the incarnation of an immortal being, in this case the god Vishnu from the Hindu religion.  There are three movements that present three of Vishnu’s avatars: Krishna, Kalki and Juggernaut.

The rest of the program features different sections of the Wind Ensemble playing some standard chamber works.  These pieces are: “Serenade No. 10 ‘Gran Partita’,” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; “Aria” and “Fughetta,” by Arthur Frackenohl; and “Variations on an Advent Hymn,” by Fisher Tull.  The concert will end with the entire Wind Ensemble performing “Symphony  No. 3,” by Giannini.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave., on College Avenue at 12th Street.
