The Hope College Chapel Choir and Symphonette will both be heading east for their annual spring break concert tours.

The college’s spring break runs Friday, March 15, through Sunday, March 24.  The Chapel Choir will perform in New Jersey, New York and Ohio.  The Symphonette will perform in Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The Symphonette will perform in Michigan, Ohio, New York and Massachusetts.

The Chapel Choir will precede its tour with a concert at First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo on Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m.  The Symphonette will precede its tour with a concert at Hope on Thursday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The Chapel Choir will perform in New Jersey, New York and Ohio between Friday, March 15, and Wednesday, March 20.  The group will perform at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.; at Grace Church Haddonfield in Haddonfield, N.J., on Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m.; at the Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Sunday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m.; at the First Reformed Church of Scotia in Scotia, N.Y., on Monday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m.; at St. Paul’s Chapel in New York City on Tuesday, March 19, at 1 p.m.; and at Trinity Reformed Church in Rochester, N.Y., on Wednesday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, the Chapel Choir will present its annual post-tour Home Concert in Holland on Monday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church.

The Symphonette will perform in New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania between Friday, March 15, and Monday, March 18.  The group will perform at St. James Episcopal Church in Zanesville, Ohio, on Friday, March 15, at 7 p.m.; at Plains Mennonite Church in Hatfield, Pa., on Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m.; at Colts Neck Reformed Church in Colts Neck, N.J., on Sunday, March 17, at 7 p.m.; and at Montvale Evangelical Free Church on Monday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m.

The Chapel Choir is Hope College’s premier choral ensemble.  Comprised of auditioned choristers, the choir has toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada, and has traveled abroad on eight occasions, most recently to South Africa in May 2009.  The choir is featured along with other music ensembles in Christmas Vespers, a tradition that stretches back to 1941, and is shown on PBS stations and broadcast on radio stations around the country.  The choir is directed by Brad Richmond, professor of music and director of choral activities.

 The Symphonette is selected each year from the larger college symphony orchestra, and maintains an active performance schedule that includes the college’s annual Christmas Vespers services.  The group has toured coast-to-coast in the United States, and has also performed in two provinces in Canada, the British Isles, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.  The Symphonette has made numerous radio and television appearances, and has performed at the Music Educators National Conference and the American String Teachers National Conference.  The Symphonette is under the direction of Richard Piippo, associate professor of music and director of orchestras.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 277 College Ave., on College Avenue at 12th Street.  St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church is located at 195 W. 13th St., on the corner of 13th Street and Maple Avenue.
