Hope College students will present a vocal jazz concert on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The students will perform: “Corcovado,” by Antonio Carlos Jobim; “East of the Sun,” by Brooke Bowman; “Summertime” and “Our Love is Here to Stay,” by George and Ira Gershwin; “Misty,” by Errol Garner; “One Note Samba,” by Antonio Carlos Kobim; “(They call it) Stormy Monday,” by T-Bone Walker; “Hallelujah, I love him so,” by Ray Charles; “Comes Love,” by Lew Brown, Sammy Step and Charles Tobias; and “So What,” by Miles Davis.
Students performing include junior Laura Beardslee of Farmington Hills; sophomore Paige Brennecke of Wheaton, Ill.; senior Emily Dammer of Galesburg; freshman Bethany Disher of Forth Wayne, Ind.; junior Annalise Klein of Beaverton, Ore.; junior Meghan Stagl of Deerfield, Ill.; freshman Melanie Strickland of Jenison; freshman Mackenzie Swart of Grand Rapids; and sophomore Sicong Wu of Xuzhou, China.
The students are directed by Edye Evans Hyde. Hyde, an instructor of vocal jazz at Hope, has been teaching and performing jazz, blues and pop music for more than 20 years in West Michigan, Los Angeles and Asia.
Nykerk Hall of Music is located in the central Hope campus at the former 127 E. 12th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
