Hope College choirs will join with choirs from Calvin College, the Holland Chorale and the Holland Symphony Orchestra in a first-time collaboration for two performances through HSO’s “Classics III” series on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21.
The concerts, titled “Choral Masterworks,” will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 21, at 3:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Auditorium of Zeeland East High School, located on 96th at Riley. There will also be pre-concert talks beginning one hour before each performance.
The combined choirs will total 250 voices. The Hope choirs are directed by Dr. Brad Richmond, professor of music and director of choral activities at Hope. The Calvin choirs are directed by Dr. Joel Navarro, and the Holland Chorale is directed by Meredith Bowen.
The concert also features soloists soprano Jessica Dodd, tenor Daniel Favela and baritone Stephen Lancaster.
In the first half of the program, Maestro Müller-Stosch will lead the Holland Symphony Orchestra and combined Hope, Calvin and Holland Chorale choirs and three soloists in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s choral symphony “The Bells.” After intermission, the choirs, orchestra and baritone Stephen Lancaster will perform William Walton’s oratorio “Belshazzar’s Feast.”
Tickets are $20 for regular admission, $17 for senior citizens and $5 for students K through college. Tickets are available in advance at Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth St, and through hollandsymphony.org, and will also be sold at the door.
Concert sponsors are Haworth, David Roossien, the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The artist’s sponsor is the David Roossien Classical Music Fund of the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.
