Two Hope athletics have been honored by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Hope Punter Honored As MIAA Special Team Player Of Week

Hope punter Dean DeVries has been selected the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week in football.

The sophomore from Grand Rapids (Grandville HS) averaged 47.4 yards on five punts, including a long punt of 53 yards and one punt downed inside the opponents’ 5-yard-line, in Hope’s 14-7 loss to Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.

DeVries is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Hope Men’s Soccer Player Honored By MIAA

Hope College men’s soccer player Logan Sikkenga has been chosen the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

The junior from Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) had a strong week on both ends of the field in leading the Flying Dutchmen to two MIAA victories. Sikkenga scored twice on headers, one off a corner kick and another off a throw-in, and helped patrol the backline in a 3-1 win over Albion, then added an assist on the go-ahead goal in a 4-1 victory over Trine.

Sikkenga is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
